1.) CAPS is a way into something, not out of something. CAPS is a way to investigate an idea or a passion in more detail. What positives do you see coming from this experience?
I am going to do an internship at Shields MRI. I have always wanted to have a professional career in the healthcare field. I want to explore my interest in the medical field and gain some experience while doing it. I plan on being a student observer. I will shadow a radiologist, a radiology assistant, and an MRI tech. I hope to gain some experience through observing these professions and a better sense of where I want to be in the medical field.
2.) Describe your proposed internship. Where will you be interning? If you don't have an internship lined up, what type of internship are you looking into and most importantly, what have done to initiate the process of securing an internship?
I will be interning at Shields MRI. I will be shadowing a few people during their daily work exercises.
3.) Describe how you will efficiently use your time, knowing that there's the official internship hours to satisfy, a web portfolio to work on/build, and a presentation to prepare for.
I plan to still be enrolled in two classes: AP Psychology and Honors Film. Both of these classes are in the early morning for me, so I will have late morning and early afternoon to be on site at my internship.
4.) What makes you excited about this internship?
I have always imagined myself in the healthcare field. I am excited to further investigate what it is really like to work in this field. By doing this internship I will get a better feeling of what subspecialty I want to pursue. Currently I am interested in Radiology, Neurology, Cardiology, and Internal Medicine. I am excited to see what it is like to treat patients in the radiology field.
5.) What are your concerns?
My only concern would be setting aside enough time to complete my schoolwork. I will have one free block in between my two classes. This will be the main time that I complete schoolwork. I will also be in communication with teachers as needed.
6.) What commitments do you have during the 2nd semester?
I do not have any other school commitments.
7.) What classes do you anticipate keeping during your CAPS Internship in addition to English?
I will be keeping my Honors English and AP Psychology classes.
8.) Please describe any experience(s) you've had that have helped prepare you for this.
When I was younger I did an internship with a veterinarian. I observed surgeries and patient examinations. My father is an orthopedic surgeon. I have had a lot of experience rounding on patients with him on the hospital floors and in his office.
9.) Total Credits earned at end of first semester?
115.5
